About Somatic Coaching
You may have been hearing the word somatics popping up more recently — and for good reason! This powerful approach is gaining so much traction right now thanks to books like The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk.
Somatics is an umbrella term that encompasses many different things. The word somatic stems from the Greek word soma, meaning body. So at its core, somatic work incorporates the body.
We experience life through the body – our bodies have been through all of our life experiences and have adapted based on if our needs have been met or not, and our level of perceived safety. These adaptations that served us in certain situations previously can hold us back later on in life and prevent us from living the life that we desire. Trauma is physically stored in the body and can limit our ability to tap into the wells of joy, connection, abundance, creativity, and the richness of life.
Somatic coaching is a body-based approach to life coaching that works with the wisdom that exists within the body. Rather than just focusing on mindset, somatic coaching is a holistic, bottoms up approach to healing that works at the level of the body to create sustainable transformation.
This type of coaching is unique and nuanced for each individual — just as all of our bodies are unique! The body is always communicating with us and guiding us, and when we can tune in, listen, and give it what it is needing, powerful healing can occur and bring the mind, body, and spirit into harmony.
In my coaching containers, together we will explore the content of life through the access point of the body. Our work together is co-created by your intentions, often what is most alive in life right now and/or what you are wanting to address, and what is arising in the body in the moment.
On a practical level, somatic sessions can include methods like movement, sound, breathwork, emotional processing, inner child & parts work, working with physical sensations, visualizations, nervous system regulation, and energetics.
My role as the coach is to guide you in navigating your system, offer helpful tools, and be a grounding and compassionate support system for you. I do not heal you, but rather support and empower you to tap into the ability to heal yourself.
